Very cool! Doubly so that it didn’t cost you anything.
For print distribution: all roads lead to Ingram.
You can get there 3 ways: directly (best), via Draft2Digital (almost as good), or via “Expanded distribution” in KDP (a very distant 3rd).
The direct route gives you the most control, including over the all-important retailer discount rates and return settings. Using D2D removes these options (along with any hardcovers), and you have to pay them their 10%.
However, you can use your KDP print cover, and you get D2D’s support (good and responsive) vs. Ingram’s (um… not) when issues arise. It’s a trade off, and each author needs to do the math for themselves.
Personally, I’ve used both, but I prefer going directly to Ingram. For now, at least. If D2D adds a couple important options to their print offering, it could change the math for me.
You may know all this already, but even if you do, print distribution is a Big Topic. I can talk a lot about it, and I hope someone knows more about it now than they did before. :)
This is very inspiring! Congrats on getting it back!
